Entdeckr is designed for those who want to escape their daily routine without hours-long planning. Users describe their ideal getaway, and the AI assistant guides them through an intelligent clarification process. The result is a detailed, ready-to-use travel plan enriched with interactive map visualizations.
To further enhance the experience, Entdeckr features “Tour Guide Mode” — an audio narration system with engaging storytelling, fun facts, historical context, and local tips.
Entdeckr was developed during a hackathon in Stuttgart. The core challenge was to design and build a meaningful, fully functional product within just a few hours. This tight timeframe required rapid ideation, clear prioritization, and efficient use of AI tools to deliver a cohesive user experience.
The project focused on a clean, minimalistic design approach to keep the interface intuitive, fast, and easy to navigate, balancing functionality and a seamless experience despite the limited development time.
Competitor Analysis
I analyzed a few websites with similar offers, but none of them was AI powered like we already planned. Therefore we decided it is a potentially good project to bring alive.
Target Audience
Primary Persona – The Time-Constrained Explorer
Busy professionals or students who want to make the most out of a short weekend but lack time and energy to plan. Goals: quickly generate a complete, reliable itinerary.
Pain points: overwhelming research, decision fatigue, fragmented tools (maps, blogs, booking sites). Needs: a fast all-in-one solution that minimizes effort and simplifies decisions.
Secondary Persona – The Spontaneous Traveler
Users who often decide on trips last-minute and seek instant inspiration. Goals: discover unique experiences without prior planning. Pain points: lack of ideas, uncertainty about what’s worth visiting. Needs: AI-driven suggestions and structured plans generated on demand.
Tertiary Persona – The Experience Seeker
Travelers who value depth and storytelling over just visiting locations. Needs enriched content such as audio guides, fun facts, and cultural context.
Information Architecture
Entdeckr was designed to guide users through a simple, linear flow—from idea to a fully visualized itinerary—while maintaining flexibility for exploration and refinement.
1) Input Screen
“Plan Your Perfect Trip” is a minimal focused interface where users describe their desired weekend getaway in natural language. A single text input encourages free-form thinking and lowers the barrier to entry.
2) Planning & Refinement Screen
Split layout: left panel chat interface for iterative AI conversation, right panel itinerary view for scannable structured output. Map access switches to spatial understanding.
3) Map View Screen
A full map view displays itinerary points interactively so users can explore distances, routes, and the overall trip flow.
The experience begins with a highly focused input screen designed to reduce decision fatigue. Instead of multiple options or filters, the layout centers on a single prominent text input.
As the user progresses, the interface becomes a split planning environment: chat on the left, editable structured itinerary on the right. This creates a dynamic feedback loop between user intent and system response.
A dedicated pathway to map view connects abstract plans with real-world locations, keeping transitions continuous to avoid disorientation.
Progressive disclosure is used throughout: complexity is revealed gradually as the user moves forward.
We also kept the experience as simple as possible: first a home site where the user adds details about the desired trip, then the system generates a plan that is editable and choosable. Right side shows a map route.
Visual Direction
Visual design prioritized simplicity, clarity, and strong focus. In a fast-paced hackathon environment, the goal was a clean and recognizable interface: minimalistic to reduce cognitive load.
A vibrant, youthful yellow was selected as primary accent color, balanced with monochrome black/white for contrast and readability. The accent color signals calls-to-action without overwhelming the layout.
For the logo, a simple airplane icon reflects the core concept of travel—lightweight and easily recognizable.
Within a single day, Entdeckr evolved from an initial idea into a functional prototype that demonstrates the potential of AI-driven travel planning. The final product delivers a seamless UX, combining personalized itinerary generation with interactive map visualization.
The project validated reducing trip planning time while maintaining customization and engagement.
Early in the project, a lot of time was spent building screens and interactions in Figma before fully integrating AI prompts. Starting with AI earlier could have sped up iteration and idea generation.
The project also reinforced adapting to the faster pace enabled by AI: the designer’s role shifts toward higher-level decision-making, quality refinement, and creative usability/storytelling.
